Two face charges in Camden burglary

CAMDEN – Police recovered jewelry and a sport utility vehicle reported stolen from a home on Howe Hill Road over the weekend and charged two males with the break-in and theft.

Police Chief Phil Roberts said Jason Josselyn, 18, of Hope and a 17-year-old male from Union each were charged with burglary, theft, and theft by unauthorized taking.

The juvenile also was charged with operating while under the influence of intoxicants, Roberts said Monday.

Roberts said police were alerted to the crime by Rockland police Patrolman William Smith at 4:16 a.m. Sunday.

Roberts said Smith encountered Josselyn and the juvenile when he answered a call from a Route 1 store owner about two intoxicated people on the premises. When Smith ran a check of the registration of the 2005 Lexus SUV they were driving, the registered owner had a Howe Hill Road address. There was some damage to the vehicle and police also found a quantity of jewelry within.

Roberts said Camden police Patrolman Daniel Sylvain went to Howe Hill Road and found indications that the home had been entered. The owners were away for the weekend, he said.
