News in brief GREENBUSH: DOT MAY OPEN ONE LANE LATER THIS WEEK

Jerry Waldo, Maine Department of Transportation regional manager, said Wednesday by phone that the portion of Route 2 closed off due to the crack and subsequent road slide will be open to single-lane traffic by late in the week or early next week. DOT crews have been working on the site for nearly three weeks to repair the road, only to run into setbacks last week. Crews now are making “slow, but steady progress in the positive direction,” Waldo said. The ledge that caused a boulder slide last week has stabilized, and crews have completed all but one-third of the work needed to securely stabilize the slope. Waldo estimated the DOT will not be done with the job for another month, when both lanes would be able to open. To meet that projection, crews “need a couple more good days,” Waldo said.
