DOVER-FOXCROFT – The Bangor Daily News and the Mid Maine Historical Society will sponsor a special display at the annual Penquis Valley Regional Expo on March 31 and April 1 at Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford.
The display, titled “A Salute to Central Maine’s Greatest Generation,” will reflect on how World War II affected the lives of central Maine residents, according to Dennis Lyford, executive director of the Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce.
The Mid Maine Historical Society will have displays on the sacrifices area residents made during the war. Ration cards and local photos also will be available for viewing. The Bangor Daily News will display a collection of front-page stories from World War II.
A panel of historians featuring Everett Parker, Louis Stevens and Bill Sawtell will speak Saturday, April 1, about the local history of prisoner of war camps and civil defense. In addition, Tom Lyford of Dover-Foxcroft will read poetry from that era.
A second panel discussion may also be added to the weekend’s events, according to Lyford.
