DOVER-FOXCROFT – Kenneth Cosenze, 44, appeared on Monday in 13th District Court for a bind-over hearing on one of two charges that resulted from a September standoff when a Dover-Foxcroft police officer was wounded.
His court-appointed attorney, however, failed to appear.
Cosenze was charged in September with aggravated assault for inflicting knife wounds to Lt. Scott Arno of the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department during a scuffle and for creating a standoff.
Attorney Stephen Smith of Bangor made it known to court officials in a telephone call about two hours after the scheduled hearing that he thought he was representing Cosenze only on the aggravated assault charge, and he thought that already was taken care of.
Judge Kevin Stitham, who continued the bind-over hearing and the civil standoff case until Jan. 23, said Smith was appointed to represent Cosenze on both matters. Cosenze is being held at the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.
