Trafton leads Central past Red Riots

ORONO – Rachel Trafton scored three goals to lead the Central Red Devils by the Orono Red Riots 4-1 in high school field hockey action Monday.

Hillary Haney added a goal and an assist for 1-1 Central. Traci Underhill and Caitlin Elliott both had an assist. Kara Voisine made four saves on five shots.Emily Sypher scored on a Anna O’Neil assist with 5:01 left in the first half for 1-1 Orono. Kristine Kittridge stopped three of 18 shots.

JV: Orono 1-0

Hampden 6, Old Town 1

At Old Town, Tini Lumino and Shaina Dennis both scored two goals to help Hampden roll by Old Town.

Anna Lotaille and Sarah Hessert each added a goal for 2-0 Hampden. Katie Hessert stopped five of 13 shots.

Cally Randall scored a goal for 0-2 Old Town and Kitty Campbell made seven saves on 16 shots.

JV: Old Town 4-0

Boys soccer

Dexter 7, PCHS 1

At Guilford, Rick Stewart had three goals and an assist and Ethan Woodman had two goals and an assist as Dexter improved to 2-0.

Aaron Woodman had a goal and an assist, Tyler Sawyer had a goal and the third Woodman brother, Brandon, had three assists.

Chris Eastman made 12 saves Dexter.

Mike Wharff scored for 1-1 Piscataquis Community High of Guilford and Ryan Martell and Corbin Shufelt combined for 21 saves.

JV: Dexter 5-1

Central 4, GSA 2

At Blue Hill Saturday, Danny Kane and Teague Palmer had two goals and an assist apiece as Central triumphed in the mutual season-opener.

Charles Haney made nine saves on 12 shots for the winners.

Mansor Aljarbow opened the scoring for George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill before Central answered with four unanswered goals. Danny Moran’s penalty kick capped the scoring for the Eagles.

Collin Henry made 10 saves on 18 shots.
