Paragon of inefficiency

If the Base Realignment and Closure Commission is really serious about saving money by closing various inconvenient military bases and installations, it should consider shutting down that paragon of gross inefficiency, the Pentagon.

The famous $700 hammer and $800 toilet seat (or was it the other way around?) are only the most trivial examples of habitual cost overrun and out-of-control finances reported so frequently in the Bangor Daily News.

Sens. Snowe and Collins might use this suggestion as a counter-proposal (or threat) to the BRAC people.
