News in brief DOVER-FOXCROFT: REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER MOVES NEAR SCHOOLS

A registered sex offender has moved to a home on Harrison Avenue behind SeDoMoCha Middle School and near Morton Avenue Elementary School, according to Dover-Foxcroft police. Troy Bemis, 39, formerly of LaGrange, who was convicted of three counts of unlawful sexual contact in May 1999, moved to Dover-Foxcroft last Wednesday, according to Dover-Foxcroft Police Chief Dennis Dyer. Bemis was visited by Dyer last Wednesday after an anonymous caller reported that the convicted sex offender had moved into the neighborhood. Bemis allegedly told Dyer that he was on his way that day to inform the police department of his move as required by law. Dyer said officials at both schools and residents in the region have been warned about Bemis and his past. Posters of Bemis also have been placed in the schools and the community, he said. It is possible that Bemis has violated state law and may face an additional charge because it appears he did not inform the Maine Sex Offender Registry that he had moved from LaGrange to Dover-Foxcroft, Dyer said. Registered sex offenders have five days to file a report of their relocation, he said. (Diana Bowley, BDN)
