Two men pull woman from Camden Harbor

CAMDEN – A woman who jumped into the frigid waters of Camden Harbor clad in only her undergarments was rescued Sunday.

Police were notified of the incident at about 12:30 p.m., Sgt. Mike Geary said Monday.

The woman, whom police declined to identify, was in the water for about 10 minutes, police reported.

Two men working on opposite sides of the harbor collaborated to save her, police said.

The 58-year-old woman, believed to be from Vinalhaven, was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport and treated for mild hypothermia. The U.S. Coast Guard reported the water temperature at about 43 degrees Fahrenheit.

The woman is believed to have jumped from a deck at Camden Square Condominiums on Bayview Street.

The men working on the harbor, Tom Babbitt and Jeff Pitman, were able to get the woman into a small boat and bring her to safety.
