ELLSWORTH – A bomb threat Tuesday at the local high school turned out to be a false alarm but is being investigated by police.
Ellsworth police Lt. Harold Page said Wednesday that a message claiming a bomb was in the school was found scrawled on the wall of a stall in a girls’ bathroom around 10 a.m. The school was temporarily evacuated and searched but nothing suspicious was found, Page said.
A subsequent reported bomb threat connected to the first turned out to be a misunderstanding, according to Page.
He said someone came to the Police Department later Tuesday to report they had received a bomb threat in the form of a cell phone text message.
It turned out, Page said, that an Ellsworth High School student dialed the wrong number before sending the message. The student simply was trying to indicate why the school was being evacuated, he said.
