Distinguished lecturer speaks today at UMM

MACHIAS – Donna Hicks, an associate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University, will speak today as part of the University of Maine at Machias’ Libra Distinguished Lecture Series.

Her topic will be “Dignity Matters: Building Human Relationships.” She will speak from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at the Performing Arts Center.

A reception for Hicks will feature a complimentary tea from 4:30 to 5 p.m. at Kimball Hall.

The second in the Libra series related to consensus building, the lecture will draw on lessons learned from international conflicts that can be applied to relationships within communities, workplaces, families and other social settings.

In addition to teaching conflict resolution at Harvard and Clark universities, Hicks conducts training and educational seminars in conflict resolution in the United States and abroad. She has been involved in numerous unofficial diplomatic conflict resolution efforts, including projects in the Middle East, Sri Lanka, Colombia and Cuba.
