MOUNT DESERT – Kathy Kaplan, coordinator of Mount Desert Island Hospital’s Swing Bed and Care Management programs, has been appointed to a national advisory committee on small, rural hospitals.
The committee will advise university-based research centers from Minnesota, North Carolina and southern Maine contracted by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy to monitor and evaluate the Rural Hospital Flexibility Program.
Kaplan is the only clinician asked to join the committee, which includes eight health care administrators from throughout the country. The monitoring team chose committee members based on their knowledge and experience in rural health care. Kaplan, who has more than 40 years of nursing experience, has become a nationally recognized leader in the development of innovative, successful programs for small, rural hospitals.
