Sen. Collins maintains perfect voting record

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine has maintained her perfect voting record in the Senate through 2003, ending the year with her 2,376th consecutive roll call vote since being sworn in to office in January 1997.

“Much of my dedication to public service was inspired by Margaret Chase Smith, who went for years without missing a vote and didn’t miss one until she was forced to do so because of surgery,” Collins said in a prepared statement.

Aside from senators sworn in this year, Collins is the only sitting senator with a perfect voting record. Former Maine Sen. Margaret Chase Smith cast 2,941 consecutive votes over 13 years.
