Write-in candidate wins SAD 50 post

ST. GEORGE – A last-minute write-in candidate for a three-year SAD 50 director’s seat garnered 263 votes.

Stuart Rich, who won the position as the only official write-in candidate, decided to run for the post, which was vacated recently when director Pamela Batty resigned.

Also on the ballot was a proposed amendment to the shoreland zoning ordinance, which was brought by petition.

The proposal, which was rejected by a 991-221 vote, would have extended the shoreland zone from 250 feet to the north boundary of Harts Neck Road, which was an effort by some residents to prevent commercial development in that area and to maintain it as residential.
