I read with interest the article about Poland Spring (BDN, Aug. 16-17) and the controversy of semantics; is it a spring or a well? I, too, pump and sell water from one of the underground aquifers mentioned in the article. Last year, for example, I pumped and delivered more than 330 million gallons of drinking water.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your point of view, I received less than three-tenths of a cent a gallon, compared to spring water at $2.85 a gallon, and I delivered it to my customers’ homes. In fact, it was piped right into their houses, where they could access it any time of day or night.
The funny part is water utilities all over the country are doing this every day of the year. If we do our jobs well, to our customers it seems like no big deal.
