MONTEREY, Calif. – Marine Corps Pfc. Matthew Schaefer, son of Cheryl Schaefer of Bangor and Thomas Schaefer of Orrington, was recently promoted to his current rank while serving with Marine Corps Detachment in Monterey, Calif. Schaefer is a 2002 graduate of Orono High School.
Basic Training
PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. – Marine Corps Reserve Pvt. Eric King, son of Paula King of Bangor and Michael King of Brewer, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is a 2002 graduate of Hampden Academy.

FORT DETRIC, Md. – Pvt. Dylan J. Allen graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., transferred to Fort Gordon, Ga., to finish training in microwave communications, and is stationed in Fort Detric, Md. A graduate of Old Town High School, he is the son of Ginger Allen of Old Town and the grandson of Charles and Betty Norburg of Milford.

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Army Pvt. Drew Mosher-Buyno has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. A 2002 graduate of Bangor High School, he is the son of Nancy McAlley of Brewster, N.Y. and Raymond Mosher-Buyno of Holden.
Deployment
USS LOS ANGELES – Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jeremy Lawrence of Bangor recently left for a six-month deployment aboard the USS Los Angeles. The nuclear-powered attack submarine left its homeport of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to conduct missions in support of the global war on terrorism or contingencies elsewhere in the world. Lawrence, son of Kathy Russell of Bangor, is an electronics technician.

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – Staff Sgt. Rory Eldridge has been deployed to Operation Eduring Freedom with the 1001st Airborne Division, Bravo Company. A 1981 graduate of Old Town High School, he is the son of Suzanne Morrison of Orono and Gary Eldridge of Boston.

FORT CARSON, Colo. – Army Pv2 Jarrod Barnett has been deployed and is participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom serving with the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment. A graduate of Orono High School, he is the son of Claudia Barnett of Eddington and Ronnie Barnett of Bangor.
