Monson man to serve 30 days in timber theft

DOVER-FOXCROFT – A Monson man will serve 30 days in jail and pay restitution of more than $16,000 after being convicted Monday of felony timber theft.

Jason Smith, 33, was sentenced in District Court to nine months in jail with all but 30 days suspended followed by four years probation for harvesting timber from several landowners without their permission in Piscataquis County.

Smith must pay the landowners a total of $16,852 in restitution. He has already paid them approximately $10,000.
