DA questions practices at methadone clinic

PORTLAND – Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson said Thursday she is troubled by the case of a Yarmouth woman who was found guilty of operating under the influence of methadone after leaving a methadone clinic in Westbrook.

On May 10, 2002, Jordan Levasseur, 52, was driving so erratically on Interstate 95 that several drivers were nearly run off the road as they tried to avoid collisions, witnesses said.

A urine test revealed that Levasseur had methadone in her system, a drug recognition expert testified. Levasseur said in her defense that the clinic, CAP Quality Care, told her it would be all right to drive after treatments at the center. Anderson said the case raises questions about the level of methadone prescribed to patients.
