As an American citizen, a member of Vietnam Veterans Against War and a compassionate human being, I am appalled and ashamed of President Bush’s terrorizing of the Iraqi people with constant threats of war. He shows callous indifference to the consequences of such a war, to the danger of the soldiers who will fight the war and to the suffering of Iraqi civilians. Who will bear the brunt of the casualties and the impact on our economy, already staggering under the twin burdens of escalating military spending and the president’s tax cuts for the wealthy?
Bush has made numerous allegations against Iraq, but has not provided the American people with evidence. I urge him to stop his war rhetoric, support the U.N. inspectors in doing their jobs, learn to better utilize diplomacy and international law to avoid the need for war and work within the U.N. to forge a consensus on important world issues.
