BANGOR – Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck a 55-year-old Bangor man as he crossed High Street at Hammond Street Friday evening.
Stanley Rolfe suffered a broken leg as a result of the accident according to a police report, although neither Eastern Maine Medical Center or St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor had any information on him late Friday night.
Rolfe was crossing High Street headed toward the downtown shortly after 5 p.m. when he was struck by what witnesses described as a white station wagon or sport utility vehicle. Witnesses told Bangor police Detective Cliff Worcester that Rolfe was in the crosswalk and had the white flashing crossing light. The white vehicle was headed up Hammond Street and was turning left when it struck Rolfe. Witnesses said a woman was driving the vehicle and gave Worcester a partial license plate number from the vehicle.
Area agencies were alerted to the incident and asked to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
