BUCKSPORT – An improperly extinguished campfire that rekindled Tuesday burned about a quarter-acre of woodland off the Bucks Mill Road.
Firefighters got the report of smoke at about 3:30 p.m. They located the fire off a road about a quarter-mile into the woods, according to Bucksport Fire Chief Craig Bowden.
Evidence discovered at the scene indicated that some juveniles had a campfire there a day or two ago and had not extinguished it properly. It had rekindled on Tuesday, and when firefighters arrived, was burning in pretty good shape, Bowden said.
Crews from Bucksport, Orrington and Orland knocked it down quickly and wet down the surrounding area.
