CAMDEN – The Select Board is expected tonight to decide which proposal to put to voters about the new police station: to renovate the Payson building or to build a new one.
The board is committed to creating a new police station. In June, residents rejected a plan to borrow up to $2.5 million to construct a new two-story station on town-owned land off Washington Street.
The renovation of the Payson building, which is adjacent to the Fire Department, is expected to cost almost $1 million. A new single-story building is expected to cost $1.2 million.
One of the plans, and the authority to borrow the funds to complete the project, will be put before voters on the November ballot.
