Maine rangers head west to fight Colorado fire

AUGUSTA – Two Maine Forest Service rangers, Jeffery Currier of Jonesboro and Richie Hafford of Lee, left Wednesday for Colorado to assist firefighters with a 1,700-plus acre wildfire near Montross.

They will serve as strike team leaders at the Bucktail fire, which hadn’t been contained when they left.

The experienced rangers are expected to be on fire detail for at least 14 days.
