Disregard for life

I just heard the tragic story of the 69-year-old man from Lyman who, on the day of his retirement and after a retirement party, was killed on the way home by a driver who was allegedly drunk and a habitual offender.

Our laws are supposed to provide protection for everyone. Who is protecting the victims and their families? Unfortunately, we cannot legislate people’s choices and their actions, nor should we.

The real menace here is the blatant disregard for human life. As long as people choose to drink and drive, we will continue to have tragedies like these. My prayers go out to this family and all families who have been victims of a drunken driver.
