Fort Kent students act as hospital volunteers

FORT KENT – Community High School students in ninth through 12th grade are participating in the Junior Hospital Volunteer program, coordinated between Northern Maine Medical Center and SAD 27.

Sixteen students are participating and are required to volunteer a minimum of 25 hours.

Before volunteering at the hospital, the students received a minimum of 10 hours of classroom education and training at the hospital. Topics that were covered included hospital ethics, confidentiality, appropriate dress, bed making, distributing and collection of meal trays, and admission and discharge of a patient. Students have the opportunity to work in a number of departments.
