SEARSPORT – A man has been arrested for breaking into his son’s car and stealing stereo equipment.
Patrolman Merl Reed arrested Frederick Pike, 45, of Searsport on Thursday after he admitted taking the equipment from his son Brian Pike’s Volkswagen Jetta earlier that day. Pike then told authorities where to find the stolen equipment.
“He and his son have been having a dispute for some time,” Reed said Friday. “He told me he took the stereo equipment because his son had a key of his and would not give it back.”
Reed said Brian Pike reported that his car had been entered and the stereo removed while it was parked behind Hamilton Marine. Reed said that later that day he went to Frederick Pike’s home on another matter and Pike blurted out that he had the stereo.
“I met Mr. Pike in the parking lot of his apartment house and when I went to hand him some papers he responded by saying ‘Oh, I thought you were here about the stereo,'” said Reed. “He then told me why he took it.”
Police Chief Sam Payson later recovered the stereo, a tape deck and compact discs from the North Searsport residence where Pike had left them.
Pike was booked at the Waldo County Jail on charges of burglary of a motor vehicle and theft and released on personal recognizance bail.
