OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Authorities are warning people who stayed at a local campground that they could be at risk for rabies if they came into contact with a family’s pet raccoon.
A Massachusetts family had a pet raccoon with them at the Paradise Park Resort campground between June 25 and July 1.
Authorities advise anyone who was at the camp during that time and had contact with the raccoon to get in touch with a doctor.
The raccoon began showing signs of the rabies virus after the family returned to Massachusetts. The raccoon since has been destroyed.
It is believed that at least 15 people were exposed to the raccoon at the campground.
