WASHINGTON – The House was expected to vote late Wednesday on a spending bill that includes $300 million in supplemental funds for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
U.S. Rep. John Baldacci, a Maine Democrat, said he expected the bill to pass.
He spoke out on the House floor Wednesday against a procedural rule that did not allow Democrats to introduce an amendment that would have increased the LIHEAP funding by $600 million this fiscal year.
The supplemental funding bill also includes increases for various agencies, including $5.5 billion for the Department of Defense and $115 million for the Treasury Department to mail out tax rebate checks.
