UNITY – A day of food and games is planned June 9 as the Unity Rotary sponsors a fund-raiser for a park that will memorialize three children and an adult who died the night a local house caught fire Jan. 2, 2000.
The events are planned for the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad station on Depot Street from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 9.
Triplet Park will honor brothers Marcus, Brydon and Joshua White, who died in the fire, and Waldo County Sheriff Robert Jones, who suffered a heart attack while responding to the blaze.
U.S. Rep. John Baldacci will be a special guest for the day, which will include train rides, donkey cart rides, horse and carriage rides, face painting and a dunk tank.
Planned is musical entertainment by Self-Asteam, troubadour Phil Whitehawk, the Mount View Chamber Singers and a calliope by Bryant Stove Works. Race cars, antique vehicles and go-carts will be on display, as will a Humvee, a National Guard Black Hawk helicopter, many information tables and the K-9 police unit. A chicken barbecue is planned by the American Legion as well as hot dog, beverage and dessert booths.
