The average bear

Does anyone remember President Reagan firing 2,500 air traffic controllers? The reason was if given a raise, it would upset our country’s economy.

How come when senators and representatives of our country voted a $90-a-week pay raise, it didn’t? Figure this out: $45,000 a year for 535 in the House and 100 in the Senate, plus a $200,000 raise for president. Don’t try this on a hand- held computer.

In the last two weeks, ice cream has gone from $1.99 a quart to $2.50. Snicker’s bars went from $1.99 to $2.19. When I was younger, a man at the mill said, “I’m not stupid. It’s the old clothes I wear.”

There’s an old saying, “Mainers are as smart as the average bear.” I’m 76 years old. They voted better than 80-1 for raises and didn’t need a union.
