Muzzy powers Lakers to win over Mariners

GREENVILLE – Tyler Muzzy tossed in a game-high 21 points Thursday night to lead the seventh-seeded Greenville Lakers to a 70-45 Eastern Maine Class D preliminary second-round victory over No. 10 Deer Isle-Stonington.

John Ethier put in 19 points for Greenville. Greg Aucoin tossed in 15, including four 3-pointers.

Josh Bolton paced the Mariners with 13 points while Matt Perez added 10.

At the Bangor Auditorium, Wes Day scored 12 of his team-high 18 points in the second quarter, including a 3-for-3 effort from the 3-point arc, to spark the Crusaders past the Broncos.

Ned Payne scored 11 points, Nick Snyder netted 10 and Zev Myerowitz added nine for the winners.

Ben Keller hit six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 20 points for Hampden. Adam Russell added 10.

At Brewer, Adam Freeman led a balanced attack with 15 points, all of which came on 3-pointers, to help the Witches cruise past the Wildcats.

Justin Archer chipped in with 12 points for Brewer, who made 12 3-pointers on the night. Matt Sargent scored 11 points while Trevor Killip put in 10.

Nick Casavant paced Presque Isle with 21 points. Ryan Graves added 11.

Emmy Russell tossed in a game-high 17 points for Hampden Academy, while Wells finished with 10, including seven in the third.

Julie Crotty led John Bapst with 12 points and seven assists. Stephanie Sockbeson contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.

Blanchard scored 23 and Tuttle recorded 16 for the winners. Melissa Blackstone chipped in 12.

Jenny Higgins led the way for the Witches with 14 points while Amy Freeman added 11.

At Bouchard Arena in Brewer, Jimmy Morin notched the game-winner to go along with his two assists as the 11-8 Witches beat Stearns of Millinocket.

Robbie Hayes and Josh Kochis notched two goals each for Brewer. Jeremiah Richter added one, and Tony Lorenz had two assists. Justin Boober made 15 saves on 20 shots.

Justin Cummings had two goals and an assist for the 5-13 Minutemen. Matt Michaud contributed a goal and two assists and Tyler Pelkey had a goal plus an assist. Nick Simon made 30 saves on 36 shots.
