MCI winter carnival has storybook theme

PITTSFIELD – A storybook theme will provide the ideas for the Maine Central Institute’s annual winter carnival, to be held Jan. 18-20. Ample snowfall and below-freezing temperatures are providing the right climate for winter sculptures on the school’s front area.

The king and queen of the carnival will be elected on Thursday, Jan. 18. Other events on that day will be the traditional tug of war on the front campus at 3 p.m., and a basketball game at 6 p.m. in Parks Gym.

Friday will kick off with volleyball matches at 8:30 a.m. in Parks Gym, followed by tennis at 11 a.m. at the courts. Hot dogs will be served at 10 p.m., and the sculptors will continue with their work until midnight.

Softball will be played at the front campus at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20. Work on the snow sculptures will continue through Saturday until the judging at 3:30 p.m. The Sno-Ball will begin at 8 p.m. in Parks Gym. The 2001 king and queen will be announced at 10 p.m.

The public is invited to attend any of the events. For more information call 487-5915.
