Police probe break-in at Rockland market

ROCKLAND – City police, a state trooper and tracking dog lost the scent of a person who tried to break in at the Cigarette Shopper on New County Road, Deputy Chief Wallace Tower said Thursday.

The law enforcement team eventually lost track Wednesday of whoever attempted to enter the store, he said. He said the front door window was found broken and the alarm was sounding when police arrived.

It was unknown whether anyone had gained access to the shop or whether anything was stolen, Tower said, adding that there are no suspects in the 10:07 p.m. break-in.
