Gouldsboro’s choice

When the voters of Gouldsboro go to the poll on June 19, they have several decisions to make regarding the future direction of our town. One of the most important choices to be made is who shall we write in as a selectman, since no one has filed papers for the second vacant seat this year.

It seems strange that in a few short years Gouldsboro has gone from being on the front pages of newspapers to this year when there is no contest for the selectman seat. Either everyone is satisfied as to how the town is being run or else no one wants anything to do with running the town.

I choose to believe the former point of view, however, it is very important that we continue to maintain a stable direction for Gouldsboro through the coming several years. With the major challenges facing Gouldsboro in the next several years we need people in office who know Gouldsboro and the people who live here.

It is my hope and recommendation that when we go to the polls we write in William “Bill” Thayer’s name. Bill, who with his wife Cindy has owned and operated Darthia Farm for the past 24 years, has been involved in many community activities and events as a concerned citizen. He is serving on the budget committee, currently in his second term. In this role he has had many opportunities to observe and advise on ways to address the needs of the community. Bill has proven himself as an involved and concerned member of the budget committee going out of his way to dig into the facts of an issue and presenting knowledgeable opinions many times in the past five years.

If you are planning to vote on June 19, I hope you will write Bill’s name in for the second selectman’s seat. Ray Jones Gouldsboro
