Joseph Mayo, clerk of the state House of Representatives, was back working at his Augusta home Monday after a brief hospitalization during the weekend that drew attention during Maine Democrats’ state convention in Bangor.
Mayo was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease last year. It was not clear Monday what the weekend hospitalization was for, but it drew notice from House Speaker Steven Rowe, who asked for prayers during the Democratic gathering at the Bangor Civic Center.
Meanwhile, a newly created waterfront park in Thomaston will be named for Mayo and his family May 20 during an outdoor ceremony.
The family is well known in the Thomaston area for its public service.
The dedication of the park will involve music and food. The ceremony will take place at noon Saturday, May 20, but the festivities will begin a half hour earlier.
