Route 17 car accident leaves two women hurt

ROCKPORT — Two women were injured in a head-on crash Wednesday on Route 17, and at least one of them is hospitalized.

Suzanne Bisset, 74, of Rockland was admitted to Penobscot Bay Medical Center and was in fair condition Thursday with chest trauma and a left wrist fracture, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Donna Dugal, 40, of Lincolnville was taken to the hospital, but no information on her condition was available.

Bisset was traveling west about 5 p.m. on Route 17 in a 1991 Ford Escort when she attempted to make a left turn near The Green Thumb store and pulled into the path of a 1994 Saab driven by Dugal, police Chief Mark Kelley said.

Kelley did not anticipate any charges in the accident, which briefly tied up eastbound traffic.

Bisset’s car received $9,500 in damage and Dugal’s car $8,500, according to the report by investigating Officer Craig Cooley.

Rockport police were assisted by Knox County sheriff’s deputies, Rockport firefighters and Rockland ambulance and Camden first aid crews.
