Old Town police seek information on robbery

OLD TOWN — Police are asking for help in identifying the man who robbed a Stillwater Avenue gas station Wednesday evening.

The suspect was described as being approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds. Believed to be in his early 20s, he left the Gulf station on foot, wearing a dark blue ski mask and dark clothes, said Detective Joel Phelps on Thursday.

Authorities are continuing to process evidence, including checking for fingerprints, Phelps said. The business reopened Thursday morning. Investigators had shut down the station following the robbery, which was reported about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Two employees were inside the station at the time of the robbery. The suspect apparently came from an area behind the station and handed one worker a Shop ‘n Save bag, demanding that he “fill it up.”

When the employee hesitated, the suspect revealed the butt of a pistol inside his clothing, said Phelps. Police estimated the man stole approximately $1,200 in cash.

Phelps asked that anyone with information related to the robbery call the Old Town Police at 827-6358.
