MAINE vs. COLORADO COLLEGE

Time, site: Friday, 6:05 p.m., Magness Arena, Denver

Records: Maine 11-2-2, Colorado College 9-8

Series/last meeting: Maine leads 4-3-2; 3-3 tie on 1/3/99

Key players: Maine – C Cory Larose (7 goals, 10 assists), RW Martin Kariya (5 & 8), LW Dan Kerluke (5 & 8), C Ben Guite (6 & 6), C Brendan Walsh (4 & 7), D Peter Metcalf (2 & 5), G Matt Yeats (5-1-2 record, 2.27 GAA, .914 save percentage); Colorado College – C Mark Cullen (8 & 11), RW Toby Petersen (6 & 12), LW Noah Clarke (6 & 10), LW Jesse Heerema (9 & 6), RW Justin Morrison (2 & 12), D Paul Manning (2 & 10), G Jeff Sanger (6-4, 2.66, .897)

Outlook: Maine is without leading scorer Barrett Heisten and top-scoring defenseman Doug Janik, who are playing for Team USA in the World Junior championships as is CC defenseman Mike Stuart. The Tigers have lost five of their last six, scoring only 10 goals in the losses. CC will have to be very aggressive and can’t afford to get caught flat-footed against the speedy, up-tempo Bears. The Bears are concerned about their 19-day layoff and the altitude in addition to CC’s high skill level. CC has averaged 38 shots on goal in its eight losses. Denver (7-11) and Notre Dame (7-11-2) face off at 9:05 p.m.
