LEWISTON — Police no longer believe a man who was found run over on Lisbon Street on Thanksgiving was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
Paul Fortin, 35, was not hit by two cars, as police initially believed.
Now police say Fortin was lying in the road before dawn when he was struck. A woman saw him and called police, but a man driving behind her ran him over and pulled over, police said Wednesday.
Police at first thought Fortin had been hit and killed earlier and had even asked the public for help finding the first driver. But autopsy results showed Fortin was killed by the one car, Sgt. Thomas Avery said.
Police do not expect to file charges against the driver.
“It was an extremely foggy night, it was dark and Mr. Fortin was lying in the road,” Avery said. “The guy did try to swerve, but it was too late.”
