Merrill Library at UMM offers free public access

MACHIAS — Merrill Library at the University of Maine Machias has eliminated its fee for community borrowers and now is giving the public free access to the facility and many services. Area residents may borrow from the circulating collection and have access to many of the library’s databases free of charge.

The increased access to the Merrill Library comes at an opportune time because of the library’s expanded holdings. Over the last three years, $30,000 has been added to the library’s budget for materials and the UMM Diversity Committee allocated $12,000 last year for books, videos, and CDs, including children’s literature, that reflect themes of multiculturalism and diversity.

Library cards will be available at the library’s front desk. For more information, contact the library at 255-1234 or log onto its Web site at www.umm.maine.edu/ library/welcome.html.
