CALAIS — The police department is investigating a weekend home invasion in which three men wearing ski masks and carrying baseball bats allegedly stole prescription drugs from a residence on the River Road.
William Mallory, 48, told police he was asleep in his house about 3:40 a.m. Saturday when three men entered and stole several bottles of prescription drugs, Sgt. David Randall of the Calais Police Department said.
The sergeant said nothing else appeared to have been taken.
Randall would not identify the types of prescription drugs allegedly taken, nor would he say whether the three men threatened Mallory or if they were known to him. He said the incident remained under investigation.
The sergeant said Mallory lives in a remote area. He said Mallory’s live-in companion, Sylvia Lebel, 50, corroborated his description of the event.
It was Mallory who called police. Asked if the three men might have entered any other homes over the weekend, Randall said, “I would say this is the first incident of this type reported in the last three years.”
A similar home invasion took place in Calais in 1995. In that incident, two men and a woman entered the home of a local businessman and stole money. The three later were convicted and sent to prison.
