Telephone runaround

Kudos to Kent Ward for the humor and time to put into words (BDN, Sept. 4-5) the frustration we also experienced recently calling Bell Atlantic, AT&T and MCI (collect calls come through them). I had read an article on making sure we are getting the best rate — and ended up longing for the party line and wall phone from good old days.

I expect we are soon going to experience the same problems in figuring our electric bills. Somehow we ended up paying $25 more for power in August than we did in July. I would call and ask “How come?” — after being homeless and not cooking because it was too hot, but I’m still trying to recover from the runaround I got from the phone company.
