ISLAND FALLS — State police on Monday continued their investigation into the Sunday morning death of a 19-year-old Merrill man.
Steven Caron was reportedly lying on U.S. Route 2 in Island Falls near the old May Mountain ski lodge at about 4 a.m. when he was struck by a 1988 Mercury operated by David Boone, 18, of Island Falls.
Sgt. Hugh Turner of the Maine State Police, said Monday that police were still trying to determine why Caron was in the road.
Caron’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta for an autopsy, in hopes that that might provide some answers.
Turner said it will probably be another day before investigators determine what actually happened.
Any charges that might be filed against Boone will depend on the outcome of that investigation, he said.
