WATERVILLE — L.L. Bean says it plans to open a year-round catalog calling center here, bringing 200 full-time jobs to the area.
The company chose Waterville because it liked the community profile and the availability of workers, said Elizabeth Spaulding, Bean’s vice president of customer satisfaction.
The center will be Bean’s third year-round call center in Maine, with the other sites in Portland and Lewiston.
A seasonal call center has operated at the former Rich’s Department Store in Waterville for the last two Christmas seasons.
Spaulding said the plan is to keep the center open after the peak holidays.
About 750 people are employed at the call center between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The center takes customer inquiries and mail orders from the company’s catalog.
“We are very proud to be able to be part of the Waterville community,” Spaulding said. “We have been extremely impressed with the quality of the work force that we have experienced during the last two peak seasons.”
