Woodland man indicted on drug trafficking charge

HOULTON — A Woodland man was indicted Thursday by an Aroostook County grand jury on a charge of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, stemming from a search of his home last month.

The indictment against Allan Hallet, 38, was the result of Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents seizing about five pounds of marijuana, 49 growing marijuana plants, scales and a loaded shotgun from Hallet’s Thibodeau Road home during the June 23 search. Hallet, who lives alone, was at home during the search.

The presence of the shotgun resulted in the trafficking charge being upgraded to aggravated.

An elaborate growing room was found in Hallet’s basement. Access to the room was blocked by two doors with six padlocks, accord to a press release issue Thursday by the MDEA.

In addition, harvested marijuana leaves were discovered drying in the basement, and processed marijuana was found in rooms on the first and second floors of Hallet’s home.

If convicted, Hallet faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

The MDEA was assisted during the search by Maine State Police, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department, the U.S. Border Patrol and the Maine Warden Service.
