BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

Someone is always trying to preserve the lobster or other fish from being depleted, there will be no more smoking in restaurants to keep people from dying of lung disease. That is all very nice, but who is trying to protect the public from getting killed on our highways? Every time I hear that you need to know how to drive properly to protect yourself from tractor trailor trucks, because they can’t always see you, it makes me sick to my stomach. There should not be a single vehicle on the road that is allowed that kind of privilege. There is no way anyone stands a chance, seat belt or no seat belt, when they are hit by an 18-wheeler. There is no safe way you can drink and drive. It should be zero tolerance. I don’t smoke and never have, but I feel a lot safer in a restaurant with smokers then I do on most of our highways.
