Mahoney’s 2 goals fuel Clippers’ win

MACHIAS – Kalen Mahoney scored twice to lead the University of Maine-Machias past Maine Maritime 3-0 Thursday in women’s soccer action.

Nicole Bemis added a goal and Marita Buteau made eight saves on 14 shots for 4-10 UM-Machias. Erin Burke and Jamie Sacharko each had an assist.

Tracy Forant turned away five of nine shots for Maine Maritime.

UM-Presque Isle 4, Thomas 0

At Presque Isle, Michele Dufour scored two goals and assisted on one to help the Owls gain the Maine Athletic Conference victory.

Heather Von Oesen added a goal and assist for the 7-3 winners. Jodi Dodge chipped in with an unassisted goal and goalie Shannon Henthorn made four saves on nine shots.

Goalie Bethany Robinson made 14 saves on 31 shots for 3-6-2 Thomas of Waterville.

Colby 1, Southern Maine 0

At Gorham, Kara Schiebel netted the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute to lift the White Mules to victory.

Heather Garni made nine saves on 12 shots for 5-4 Colby.

Samantha Whitman made 15 saves on 18 shots for 6-3-1 Southern Maine.

Field hockey

So. Maine 2, UM-Farmington 1

At Farmington, forward Alison Drury scored her fifth goal of the season with 6:30 left in regulation to give the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies a 2-1 victory over the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers.

Southern Maine took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half on freshman Hope Kurro’s third goal of the season off a pass from Rebecca Reed. Andrea Guerette made six saves on 13 shots for the 8-7 Huskies.

Holly Catlett tied the game at one appiece with an unassisted goal and Meghan DeCourcey turned away 14 of 28 shots for the Beavers.

Men’s soccer

Maine Maritime 4, Thomas 3

At Waterville on Wednesday, Ope Molley had two goals and an assist, including the eventual game-winner, to lead the Mariners.

Angelo Rizzitello and Jason Fraser also scored for 4-8 Maine Maritime. Farhan Zbairan had two assists. Mike Bills made three saves on 11 shots.

Jahma Charles, Brad Pelletier and Don Demerchant scored for 2-9-1 Thomas. Danny Martin registered an assist. Dan Funk had four saves on 17 shots.
