BAR HARBOR — Mount Desert Island Hospital’s Outer Island Initiative received a special award from the Maine Public Health Association last week.

The island initiative travels to such towns as Frenchboro, where free flu shots, basic health screenings and, for the first time, dental screenings are given.

The initiative includes Andrea Walker, certified health specialist, Lou Ingrisano, a physician’s assistant, and Jackie Mace, a registered nurse. The Frenchboro trip provided health care to 25 people and dental screenings to 13.
