Seminar to aid firms with EPA regulations

AUGUSTA — The Maine Chamber and Business Alliance with the Environmental Business Council of Maine will hold a seminar, “Public communications issues and EPA’s risk management plan – is your company ready?” from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 16, at the Augusta Civic Center.

The seminar will explore challenges faced by industries subject to mandates of the U.S. EPA risk-management regulations. This seminar also will help companies confront the issues associated with getting information to the public under freedom of information requests or as part of a requirement to furnish it voluntarily.

The topics include:

An overview of the USEPA program and its objectives in terms of accident prevention and emergency preparedness.

Communicating the purpose and meaning of the off-site consequences analysis within and beyond the context of the risk-management plan.

Raising public awareness before and after a facility’s plan is made available in June 1999.

The Maine Chamber and Business Alliance represents nearly 800 businesses statewide before the Legislature and regulatory agencies. For more information, call Leika Collins at 774-1001, Ext. 225.
