Unexplained explosion, fire destroy vacant Milo home

MILO — A mysterious explosion and fire destroyed a single-family home on Pleasant Street in Milo late Friday night. The cause of the fire has not been determined, according to Milo Fire Chief David Preble.

The home has been vacant for three years, Preble said on Sunday, since the owner, an elderly woman, died. The home was kept heated by the family, but no one was living there, he said.

A gas delivery made there earlier Friday may have been an error that contributed to the explosion, Preble said.

An investigator from the state Fire Marshal’s Office is expected at the fire scene on Monday.

Preble said his department remained at the scene for about two hours Friday.
