Wiberg powers busy Mariners over Royals

JONESPORT – Nick Wiberg scored 21 points to lead Deer Isle-Stonington past Jonesport-Beals 71-50 Friday in the Mariner boys’ fourth basketball game in five days.

Chris Hutchinson added 17 points for the Mariners.

Ray Mills scored 14 points and Josh Knowlton added 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Royals.

At Bucksport, Corey Streams dribbled through three Golden Bu At Bucksport, Corey Streams dribbled through three Golden Buck defenders and hit a 3-pointer while falling down, lifting the Minutemen to victory.

Streams’ heroics, coming after a Stearns timeout, nullified a pair of clutch free throws by Bucksport’s Johnny Beck with three seconds remaining. Streams also made an NBA-range 3-pointer at the end of the first half to give the Minutemen of Millinocket a two-point edge.

Streams finished with 25 points.

Cam Giroux paced Bucksport with 22 points and nine rebounds.
